Back to Basics Haircare

I love having hair options just as much as the next woman, but lately, I've been feeling the need to bring it back to the basics of haircare:  cleanse, condition, and style. If you've been feeling similar or are a haircare newbie, definitely read on:

1. Cleanse:  Keep your hair clean...definitely keep your hair clean. Clean hair and a clean scalp are the foundations for healthy hair and tresses that "behave." Perhaps your hair isn't "acting right" due to multiple layers of product build-up. Give your hair a fresh start with a cleansing (or even clarifying if you have been using a lot of stylers) shampoo. Product-free strands are the most receptive to nourishment and moisture, so amp up the clean factor.

2.  Condition:  After you have cleansed, it is imperative that you get the moisture in--and keep it there. The best way to lock in the softness is through a deep conditioning treatment. You may prefer an intensive masque or a semi-rich conditioner based on your hair's needs. Whatever your strands demand, just remember that consistency is key.  Regular treatments will render continuously positive results, so keep conditioning.

3.  Style:  Now we're on to the fun part--styling. Back in the day, we braided or twisted our hair for the week until wash day. It may seem simplistic, but it works. We didn't seem to have the retention and moisture issues that we have now. Of course, there's also the matter of being an adult. No grown woman wants to look like a little girl--nor is it your only option. Thanks to updos, buns, ponytails, and half-up and half-down styles, you can look fly and still have healthy hair.

Haircare may be multi-layered at times, but it isn't hard. Above all, consistency is key. If you constantly nourish and nurture your hair, it will reward you by flourishing.
