Healthy Hair Nutrition Spotlight : Iron

By Erma W.

We all know that lush and non-brittle hair is the result of what we put on our tresses and in our bodies. Sometimes, however, we need to pay extra attention to what we ingest to garner the outcome that we seek.  Let's consider iron.

Iron is a mineral that is very important for the hair.  It feeds the hair follicles and roots. Iron deficiencies can lead to hair loss.  It can also make the hair appear dull.  To increase your iron levels, add some red meat, chicken, and fish to your diet. If you are a vegetarian, load up on leafy greens like spinach, kale, and turnips. In many instances, excessive shedding is an indication of low iron levels. If your shedding continues for a prolonged time, visit the doctor.

Here's to rich-looking and healthy hair the iron way!
