What's Your Clean Speed?

By Erma W.

Gone are the days when of one-solution only cleansing methods!  We now have several choices for tidying our locks.  Which one is your clean speed?

1.  Shampoos:  We’re all familiar with the traditional liquid shampoos in the beauty aisles: different brands with the same mixture of sulfates.  In recent years, these standard cleansers have become more friendly to naturally kinky, coily, curly, and wavy hair.  Some new wave alternatives include Ouidad Climate Control Defrizzing Shampoo, tgin Moisture-Rich Sulfate Free Shampoo, and Kinky Curly Come Clean.  Who said that moisture and cleansing don’t go hand-in-hand?  Or that natural and clarify are oxymorons?  No, no, no…natural cleansing yields so many options.

2.  Co-washes:  Dry hair is the ultimate curly-girl struggle.  We want hydrated curls, but our hair still needs to be cleaned.  What’s the solution? Enter co-washes.  Co-washes, or cleansing conditioners, are products that contain both cleansing and conditioning agents.  Some great ones include Curl Junkie’s Daily Fix (thickly-luscious with an amazing scent and great for really dry hair), Shea Moisture Coconut and Hibiscus Cleansing Conditioner (sweetly aromatic while providing just the right blend of “clean” and “soft”), and the Jane Carter Solution Restore Creamy Conditioning Cleanser (cleanses thoroughly while keeping hair color sharp).  Keep it clean…and moisturized!

3.  Shampoo bars:  Sometimes you just want to ditch the bottle and grab some soap.  If this sounds like you, pick up some shampoo bars.  They’re fun to use (although I rub the bar in my hands and apply the lather to my hair and scalp, instead of the suggested way of rubbing the bar upon the head), and they get the job done.  A few popular ‘poo bars include Bobeam Shampoo bars (this line include several options, so you’re sure to find what you want), the Knotty Boy Dreadlock Shampoo bar (specifically recommended for anyone with locs), and Oyin Handmade’s Grand Poo Bar (a glycerin-rich soap base that renders conditioners unnecessary for some).  Maybe a shampoo bar is your ultimate cleansing solution.

Bonuses:  Many naturalistas have also raved about the cleaning abilities of the Ouidad Cleansing Oil, Terressentials Mud Wash, and bentonite clay masks.

Give some of these products a whirl and discover your clean speed!
